How to Restore From a Backup

Updated 29 June 20261 views2 min read

If something's gone wrong with your site or email, restoring a backup can get you back to a working version. This guide shows you how, and what to do if your plan doesn't allow self-restore.

Before you start: restoring overwrites current data

Restoring replaces your current files, databases, or email with the contents of the backup you choose. Anything created or changed since that backup was taken may be lost, so it's worth creating a fresh backup of the current state first if you can.

Step 1 — Open the Backups area

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Open your control panel and select your website.
  3. Open the Advanced menu and select Backups.

Step 2 — Choose the backup to restore

  1. Look through the list of available backups, including automatic ones.
  2. Use the notes and dates to find the backup you want.
  3. Select the option to restore it.

Step 3 — Choose Website or Email

When you restore, you can choose what to bring back:

  • Website — restores your files and databases (the site itself).
  • Email — restores your email.

Select the option that matches what you need to recover, then confirm to begin the restore.

If self-restore isn't available on your plan

Some plans allow you to restore backups yourself. If you don't see a restore option, your plan doesn't include self-restore — but that's no problem. Open a support ticket, let us know which backup you'd like restored (the date and any note help), and we'll restore it for you.

Next steps

Once the restore finishes, check your site or email to confirm everything looks right. If anything seems off, or you'd like us to handle the restore for you, open a support ticket and we'll take care of it.
